What exactly does a neurologist do?

I was rearended pretty badly about two months ago. My Ford Focus was completely totaled by a Chevy Trailblazer. I’ve been going to PT for the whiplash injury to my neck and shoulder. I have also had some loss of cognitive function(which is slowly recovering), anxiety issues, loss of sleep, and constant head aches. My PCP has ordered CT scans and MRI of my brain, both came back normal. So now he is reffering me to a neurologist. What can I expect from this, in terms of treatment.

I have read many conflicting opinions about what happens to the brain(if anything) during whiplash. There is no lawsuit, as this was a genuine accident and I presume all medical bills lost wages will paid in full.
